Beginning Fencing

Beginning Fencing is a class designed to give a solid foundation on the basics of fencing and preparing students for bouting.

Class Sessions include:

  • Discussion and practice of proper safety techniques
  • Warm-ups and stretching
  • Footwork (Advance, retreat, lunge, advance-lunge)
  • Distance games, lunging games, line drills
  • Lines of attack and defense
  • Ripostes
  • Actions on the blade
  • Paired practice
  • Disengages
  • Bouting rules, skills and strategy
  • Refereeing bouts

Students have the option to continuing in the class to get even more comfortable in the sport or proceeding to the Advanced Fencing Class which focuses on strategies and tactics, joining TFC as a Member and participating in open bouting sessions six days a week, or entering a Competitive Training Program. When students are ready to continue their journey beyond Beginning Fencing, they should purchase their own fencing equipment.
